Tired of the conventional roti prata? How about trying the ingenious Plaster Blaster created by Springleaf Prata Place? A holy matrimony between two culinary fare, a fusion of west and east, Springleaf Prata Place takes on an innovative twist on the classic eggs Benedict.
We visited Springleaf Prata Place’s outlet at Springleaf Garden to try their unique creation. The shop space emanates rustic and cosy vibes; featuring vibrant stools and dangling led bulbs, the ambience is a fitting spot for a casual catch up over delicious Indian-Muslim food.
Upon settling down on the colourful stools, we skimmed through the comprehensive menu and placed our orders. Of course, we had to order the highly recommended Plaster Blaster (S$5.50). We also ordered the Plain Prata (S$1.20) and a hot Teh Tarik (S$1.30).
The backstory of the creative invention dates back to 2014, where Mr Guna, the owner, had decided to take things to the next level during the Ultimate Hawker Festival. Drawing inspiration from from his Perth travels, he vividly remembers the joy derived from slicing through the eggs Benedict’s poached egg and the luscious yolk oozing. He wanted to infuse this Aussie element into his traditional pratas and the Plaster Blaster was born.
The Plaster Blaster boasts two slices of turkey ham, and a perfectly poached egg laden with Indian-spiced hollandaise sauce placed on top of a plain prata. After several mouthfuls, we can vouch that Spring Leaf Prata Place’s recipe was very well executed.
Although the plain prata was crispy on its own, it wasn’t as flaky and buttery as we had hope for it to be. It came with a slightly unpleasant taste of char (from an overheated grill). However, the rich, tangy hollandaise sauce helped to musk the undesirable aftertaste. Fortunately, the curry was fragrant and had a good amount of spice. For a delightful explosion of flavours, have a mouthful of everything at once – we reckon that is the best way to consume the Plaster Blaster.
Order Plaster Blaster from Springleaf Prata Place the next time you visit, and you can have both breakfast and supper at the same time!
