Planning to hit the club with your girl gang for the first time, or has it been a long time since you last partied? Clubbing is fun, but ladies, you should always be well prepared before hitting the nightclubs – especially when it’s your first time. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
From your clubbing outfit to choice of drinks, we have compiled a list of useful clubbing tips for girls. Even if you’ve gone clubbing countless of times, it doesn’t harm to share this guide with a girlfriend who is new to the game.
1. Planning: The fundamentals to a great night
It’s always good to plan ahead and this principle applies to all aspects of clubbing too. Make it a point to meet your friends before entering the nightclub, and set a time to regroup outside of the club i.e. 2:30am.
We hate to break this to you, but the chances of losing each other in a club are extremely high. Trust us, you wouldn’t want to spend the whole night pushing through the crowd to find your friend. Don’t even bother making a phone call in the club – you certainly would not be able to hear anything but the loud music.
On a separate note, do your research and make sure the music played at the club is your jam. If you only like R&B music, you shouldn’t be visiting a trance party!
2. What to wear: Stilettos or sneakers?
Can’t decide between your six-inch heels and a comfy pair of sneakers? Well, ask yourself if you foresee a night of crazy night of dancing, or if you’re staying all the way till six in the morning! We know that high heels will complete your killer outfit, but you also need to consider if it’s really worth the pain.
In worst case scenarios, you might end up tripping when intoxicated. Speaking from experience, we’ve seen girls fall flat on their faces way too many times – and it ain’t glamorous!
Having said that, it is important to dress appropriately for the occasion. Avoid dressing sloppily if you’re going to a high-end club with a dress code. You wouldn’t want to feel like an oddball amongst a crowd full of people dressed to the nines. Worse still, you don’t want to risk being denied entry.
3. Your choice of makeup
The nightclub will be packed like sardines and you will definitely perspire. Use a setting spray and primer so that your make up can last longer. Opt for waterproof mascara and eyeliner to avoid unsightly smudges.
It’s dark inside and everyone will be snapping pictures with flash photography. Choose the right shade of foundation and stash some oil blotting sheets so you don’t look oily in that selfie.
4. What to bring: Bring only the essentials
You really do not need to bring much, so pack only the essentials – your ID, credit or debit card (it’s easier that you don’t have to fumble with cash), your keys and tissue. Seriously, you never know when the toilet will run out of paper.
If you are coming straight from school/work, some clubs do offer bag deposit services – you can consider checking in your belongings before hitting the dance floor.
Just in case: Ladies, if it’s important for you to stay connected, remember to pack in a portable charger; for you may need your phone to book a ride home or keep in touch with a trustworthy friend that is aware of your whereabouts for the night.
5. What time to go
Every club has its own rules and timings. Certain nightclubs might even impose a strict policy when guests DJs are spinning. When in doubt, check!
For instance, Marquee Singapore has strictly enforced ticket holders to arrive before 11:30pm and stated that admission is not guaranteed after 11:30pm when there are internationally-acclaimed guest DJs performing.

7. Go in pairs
You never know when you may find yourself too tipsy to function. Whenever possible, go to the restroom in pairs so your girlfriend can look out for you. This will also ensure that you have each other’s back in the event anybody tries to take advantage of you.
8. Never leave your drinks unattended
A safety rule of thumb: Never accept drinks from strangers if you did not witness it being poured.
To assume the worst, drinks could be spiked so do not ever leave your drinks unattended! You wouldn’t want to find yourselves in a regrettable situation the next morning.
9. Stick to the same spirit throughout the night
The internet has many mixed-messages about whether alcohol mixing is detrimental for your night out. One thing for sure, if you are already feeling tipsy, you should lay off the bubbles (i.e. sparkling wines and champagnes) because these drinks may irritate your stomach lining and increase the rate of alcohol absorption; which leads to a higher chance of intoxication.
Ultimately, the key to an enjoyable night out is to pace yourself. Know your limits. Surely you want to remember your night and not black out!?
10. Party with people you like and trust
What makes or breaks your first clubbing experience is usually the people you choose to hit the club with. As a wise man once said, things are better when you’re with great company. You have probably been waiting for this night for a very long time now, but it will really help if you can hit the club with a group of fun, trustworthy friends that will look out for each other.
