If you haven’t yet heard of Dalgona Coffee, the internet’s biggest buzz as of late, you really should get out from that under that rock you’re living in. For the sake of those who genuinely don’t know, Dalgona Coffee is a fancy-looking caffeinated beverage made by mixing equal parts instant coffee granules, sugar and warm water. It takes on a fluffy, almost meringue-like consistency and is often dolloped over milk and ice.
Here at Uncover Asia, our stand is simple. If it ain’t got booze, we ain’t drinking it. Keen to try our version? We take the ordinary Dalgona Coffee you know and love and spike it with all sorts of boozy additions, making it ten times better. While most coffee-based beverages help you to fight the urge to sleep, ours will do just the opposite. Presenting our Dalgona Mudslide.
One of the key reasons Dalgona Coffee is such a hit on social media is attributed to the fact that it’s really simple to make and the ingredients required to make it can be found in anyone’s kitchen pantry. To stand out, some folks have taken it upon themselves to take the recipe even further by topping it with all sorts of things like cocoa powder, crumbled biscuits and some even swop out the coffee entirely, substituting it with things such as Milo or Horlicks powder.
Our rendition, however, is a hybrid between a White Russian, Mudslide and Espresso Martini. We fashioned ours to be punchy, fragrant yet light and palatable with a distinct flavour of freshly pulled espresso. You’ll still get the fluffy topping of whipped coffee (but spiked with booze) and a base beverage of varying complexities—a creamy amalgamation of coffee, fresh milk and vanilla.

Alcoholic Dalgona Coffee Recipe
STEP 1: To make the whipped coffee, add equal parts vodka, sugar and instant coffee into a mixing bowl and whisk until stiff peaks form. Think, a fluffy meringue—that’s exactly how the mixture should end up. Set it aside in the fridge until needed.
STEP 2: In a shaker, add in vodka, Baileys, Kahlua and ice. Shake vigorously for about 10 seconds or until super frothy at the top. Add in fresh ice to a glass and pour milk till about halfway full then strain the cocktail over it. You should end up with a nicely layered drink.
If you want to do away with the whole layering step (like we did), you can just add in the milk into the shaker and shake everything up.
STEP 3: Leave about an inch at the top and top it with your boozy Dalgona creme. Voila! You’ve just made yourself a creamy, indulgent, super-boozy Dalgona Mudslide.
We’d recommend shaking to achieve maximum froth, but it really doesn’t matter since you’re going to be topping the cocktail off with your Dalgona creme anyway. By all means, stirring everything over ice will work just fine. We hope this simple recipe will help you fight boredom amid lockdown!
