In light of the pandemic, Singapore’s biggest annual music festival is taking things online with “Baybeats Online”. Baybeats is renowned for its wide array of genres, mosh pits and Singapore’s best music talents. The live festival is slated to be postponed to November, but given how rocky things are… We can only hope.
Baybeats Online takes shape in a bite-sized format, with intimate and stripped-down sets featuring a diverse range of local artists. Split into five different segments (Baybeats Unplugged, In Bed with Baybeats, Chapalang Sessions, Observation Deck and #BaybeatsThrowback); covering a range of both pre-recorded and live-streamed sessions, the festival aims to bring the indie alternative experience straight to your screens.
Look out for performances with a personal touch, panel discussions and informal chats with artists/members of the Singapore music scene.
Baybeats Goes Online: Singapore’s Free Alternative Music Festival
Recognised as one of Singapore’s biggest free alternative music festivals, Baybeats is an annual event that presents a fist-pumping line-up of prominent Singapore and international acts. It covers a diverse array of genres including folk, pop, R&B, hip hop, metal, post-rock, emo, punk, electro and more. Presented by Esplanade, the 19th edition of Baybeats will feature both an online edition and a live festival taking place in August and November respectively.
Baybeats Unplugged
Baybeats Unplugged takes artists away from the electrifying stages, getting them to perform intimate stripped-down versions of their original songs. Artists include Forests, Tell Lie Vision, Annette Lee, Mannequins, LEW, Charlie Lim and more!
Chapalang Sessions
Chapalang Sessions will feature a collective of local acts such as Iman’s League, Two Seas, Hauste and more, who will come together for a live jamming session, streamed from Esplanade Annexe Studio. Expect playful, casual banter, lots of laughter and solid sounds all around.
#BaybeatsThrowback
#BaybeatsThrowback will showcase a host of local artists filmed at unconventional spaces in Esplanade and three special #throwback gigs to celebrate their performances during earlier Baybeats editions.
Observation Deck
From the Observation Deck, viewers can get up close and personal to see and learn exactly how music is made. From music distribution in Southeast Asia to how music is recorded; this is where you’ll find inspiration and know-how pertaining to Singapore’s buzzing music scene.
Round up your music festival squad (capped at five, please) and huddle up in the comfort and safety of home, because Baybeats Online is not one to be missed.
