Cheng Mun Chee Kee: Hearty Bowls Of Pig’s Organs Soup Until 5:00 AM

A popular Teochew dish, the pig’s organ soup is a firm favourite among Chinese Singaporeans. It’s meaty, nutritious and delightfully hearty. Perfect to have at any time of the day—especially when you’re in the midst of recovering from a hangover—pig’s organ soup is a dish that promises nothing short of total satisfaction.

Our go-to for pig’s organ soup is Cheng Mun Chee Kee Pig’s Organ Soup. Located along Foch Road, they open until 5:00 am on most days, making it a perfect spot to hit up for supper. Their broth is phenomenal, their offal is fresh and very tender and service is usually very efficient. You never have to wait longer than 10 minutes for your food to be served.

The main star of the establishment, no one—literally no one—comes here without ordering a bowl of their Signature Pig Organ Soup (S$4.20 for small, S$6.20 for large). The first thing you do when placing your order is to decide on the size of your bowl, followed by the various ingredients you want to add.

Signature Pig Organ Soup

We went for a small-sized bowl filled with tofu, pig’s liver, pig’s stomach, lean pork, salted vegetables and meatballs. The broth is simply mind-blowing. Albeit its clear appearance, the full-bodied soup is deliciously comforting. Adding liver makes such a huge difference to the overall flavour as it adds a certain mineral flavour that intensifies the meatiness of it.

Cheng Mun Chee Kee’s meatballs are also really special. They contain dried salted fish, giving the meatball umami and a heightened savoury depth.

Hua Diao Wine Chicken with Ginger

Other than their pig organ soup, Cheng Mun Chee Kee also serves a pretty wide selection of side dishes. We opted for the Hua Diao Wine Chicken with Ginger (S$3). Nuanced with the spiciness of ginger and the sweet hints of the Chinese wine, this dish was an easy favourite among our team.

The sauce was a well-rounded marriage of sweet and savoury with an earthiness to it and the chicken was tender yet firm.

Steamed Minced Meat with Chestnut & Salted Fish

With most minced meat dishes, you often find that the texture tends to be dry and chewy from the connective tissue in the middle but surprisingly so, their Steamed Minced Meat with Chestnut & Salted Fish (S$3) had neither. It was soft and very finely minced.

The sauce added so much savoury depth to it. Every bite was a treat of different textures and a delightful double whammy of fishy and porky flavours. We highly recommend ordering this to share!
