Drunken Farmer located along Stanley Street in the Telok Ayer precinct is a paradise for sourdough lovers and oenophiles. The natural wine wine gastro bar shares the same space as Common Man Stan, so don’t be confused when you see a bustling cafe in the morning.
With more than 80 natural wine labels available curated by sommelier Eduardo Bayo; and an insanely delicious repertoire of sourdough-focused gourmet creations by chef Paul Albert, equal parts bar and bistro Drunken Farmer is truly a must-visit.
It’s a convenient three-minute walk from Telok Ayer MRT Station, so avoid driving if you plan to have more than a glass or two!
Drunken Farmer’s Salad
We kick started our scrumptious dinner with a refreshing plate of vegan Drunken Farmer’s Salad (S$15), featuring freshly harvested seasonal greens and pickled vegetables with a homemade dressing.
Sourdough Karaage
Warning: The Sourdough Karaage (S$20) is an addictive starter. Chunks of chicken thigh are marinated overnight in a sourdough batter, then cooked till crispy and golden on the outside. The insides remain tender, juicy and are best eaten when dipped inside homemade kimchi mayonnaise.
Sourdough Pizzas — A Must at Drunken Farmer!
No trip to Drunken Farmer is complete until you try their legendary sourdough pizzas. Don’t underestimate this seemingly simple-looking dish. These pizzas take a whopping 30 hours to rise and use slow-fermented dough crafted from a 159-year old starter. It’s worth mentioning that the cheeses used at Drunken Farmer are made from local cows’ milk in Singapore.
Their vegetarian-friendly Margherita Sourdough Pizza (S$18) is a crowd favourite and it’s not hard to see why. Tomato-based sourdough topped with fresh basil and stracciatella; we love how its crust is airy and crisp, with a delightfully chewy dough. Without a doubt, this is one of Singapore’s best pizzas!
Consider pairing the Ricotta & Dried Tomatoes Sourdough Pizza (S$20) and Shrooms & Goat Cheese Sourdough Pizza (S$22) with a bottle of 2019 Danjou-Banessy Supernova. A perfect entry level orange wine, its aroma and rich fruity texture makes it a great complement to spicy and savoury dishes.
Desserts at Drunken Farmer? Try their Sourdough Waffles!
If your stomach still allows, end your feast on a sweet note with their Sourdough Waffles (small – S$12, large – $18). Two squarish waffles drizzled with gula jawa salted caramel, dusted with sugar and served with a quenelle of 100% raw banana ice-cream.
Looking for other natural wines to unwind after a long day at work? Other highly recommend wines include Domaine Christian Binner | Si Rose 2018-19 ($23/glass, $118/bottle) and Le Scarabée Qui Bulle 2014 ($145/bottle).
P.s. Easties will be pleased to hear that Drunken Farmer has opened its second outlet in Joo Chiat.
