Singapore Supper

Gyoza no Ohsho: Hidden Japanese Eatery in Orchard Opens till 2:30am*

Gyoza no Ohsho is a hidden gem situated on the first floor of Cuppage Plaza. The no-frills Japanese eatery opens till 2:30 am from Monday to Saturday, and until midnight on Sunday.

Surrounded by many bars, Gyoza no Ohsho makes a great supper spot after a few rounds of drinks! Serving Japanese-style Chinese cuisine, the portions here are value for money and great for sharing.

The unassuming shop space is small, and can only accommodate around 24 seated guests.

While waiting for your food, help yourselves to the drinking water provided, which we really appreciate because many restaurants in Singapore have adopted a policy of charging for a glass of tap water.

GYOZA NO OHSHO_GROUP SHOT
Gyoza (Pan-Fried Dumplings), S$5

Gyoza no Ohsho is famous for their gyoza, and we are delighted that these lovely pan-fried dumplings have lived up to its hype. Each plate costs S$5 and comes with six pieces of piping hot gyozas with glistening crispy golden brown skin.

The gyoza’s skin was of the right thickness; it was able to hold the filling and retain its moisture. Flavourful and juicy, the pork was really well seasoned and you get an occasional crunch from the finely chopped vegetables.

You can choose to have it on its own or dip it in either the black or white vinegar provided. Besides adding on to the depth of flavour, the vinegar will also help to relief some greasiness. We believe that Gyoza no Ohsho could easily be one of the top contenders in Singapore for best gyozas.

Tamago Ramen (S$16)

If you are looking for a wholesome bowl of Japanese Ramen, the ramen served here comes in a big portion – with a lot of noodles, you’ll be stuffed!

The noodles were firm and springy, and the pork-stock soup was light and tasty. While we aren’t sure of the Tamago Ramen’s recipe, we could taste hints of sweet corn in the pork broth. The crunchiness of the bean sprouts and fragrance of the spring onions really helped to enhance the ramen’s flavour profile.

The highlight of this dish has got to be the thinly sliced pork chashu. As you can see in the photo, it had a good amount of lean-to-fat ratio and was cooked to perfection. Every bite was delicious and we love how the soft fats melted in our mouths.

If you are like us, you would enjoy the soft, golden yolk of the lava eggs. All in all, this was a fairly decent bowl of ramen.

However, if you prefer a rich and thick pork soup, Gyoza no Ohsho’s rendition is a far cry. You may add your own seasoning such as the crispy chilli oil for an additional layer of flavour.
