Hard Rock Cafe is a popular global restaurant chain, but I’ve never once entered any of its outlets until two weeks ago.
As I flipped the comprehensive food menu, I saw an interesting dish that piqued my curiosity:
Singapore Satay Burger!
Say what?
In my mind, I pictured traditional grilled chicken skewers stuffed between buns. That didn’t make any sense, but I ordered it anyway to find out for myself.
The skeptic in me was also very eager to prove that Hard Rock Cafe’s Singapore Satay Burger was most likely a marketing gimmick.
At first glance, the Singapore Satay Burger looked just like any other ordinary beef burger. A knife pierced through the entire burger. It was completely nothing like what I had imagined it to be.
So what was it?
A certified Angus beef patty—cooked to your preferred doneness—is smeared with tangy satay peanut sauce and topped with cool cucumber slices, and sandwiched between lightly toasted buns.
Seasoned fries and mini saucers containing Sriracha mayonnaise and chopped onions were served on the side.
I was ready to dig in, ready to be let down.
Surprisingly, I wasn’t.
The crunchy peanut sauce was a great addition to the medium rare succulent Angus beef patty. Sweet and nutty, it would have been an even more delightful treat if the satay burger was served hot…
Who knew satay sauce could complement a beef burger? Well, the chefs at Hard Rock Cafe Singapore—the creators of this Asian fusion dish—had known.
In fact, this burger was officially launched in 2016 and even went on a world tour!
Do we prefer the real deal aka satays on its own? Definitely. Nonetheless, kudos to Hard Rock Cafe Singapore for boldly creating this unlikely dish and incorporating Southeast Asian flavours into their signature Angus beef burgers.
