Tucked in a small corner along Ning Po Street, you’ll find Block 18 Doggie’s Noodle bustling with throngs of hungry people from morning till night. Their menu is straightforward, boasting a decent array of Cantonese street foods such as braised duck leg, curry fish balls and imitation shark’s fin soup.

The main draw though, is their ‘Doggie’s noodles’, a thick noodle variety made with glutinous rice with a texture similar to udon. The dish is served in a gloopy soup with lots of pickled radishes, garlic, scallions and lard.

You’ll find street vendors selling skewered delights in abundance especially in popular districts but truth be told, few of them come close to the famous, Fat Boy.

Their selection of yummies is modest ranging from soy-marinated octopus, beef tongue, pig intestines to chicken gizzards. To be fair, the lineup isn’t the most glamorous but once you’ve tried it, you’ll understand why locals go bonkers for it. For extra attitude, they slather over mustard to give the skewers a sweetish and mildly spicy kick.

Another late-night dessert heaven, Kai Kai differs from Joyful Dessert House in that they specialise in traditional Chinese sweet soups as opposed to the latter’s western desserts and confectioneries.

Their mango sago, glutinous rice balls and red bean soup seem to be heavy hitters, but we are huge fans of their nut creams ourselves—their black sesame cream is pure sex.

This humble shop is famous for their glutinous rice dish with Chinese sausage as well as their cheong fun (rice rolls). They basically serve up the sort of items most locals would consider a ‘typical Hong Kong-er’s breakfast’ such as fried noodles, congee and the like.

Albeit being a hole-in-a-wall, there are a few seats inside but it’s pretty tiny so expect to be crammed into a corner with random strangers.
