Crowned Singapore’s best rooftop bar, Loof boasts a reputation for being one of the trendiest spots in the city. Perched atop Odeon Towers, the garden space is decked out in modern furnishings and decor that exude a sense of nostalgia and playfulness.
The kitchen serves up an array of contemporary plates, while the bar is where you’ll find a repertoire of whimsical, bordering-on-crazy, hand-crafted Southeast Asian inspired cocktails.
Inspired by the nuances of Southeast Asian flavours, their cocktails sing of a certain quality that is familiar yet unique, such as their ever-popular Alcoholic Bubble Tea, a spin on Asia’s most obsessed-about beverage.
Since its doors first opened back in 2005, Loof has remained one of the hippest and funkiest places to meet old friends and make new ones. There’s a palpable energy that permeates through the entire rooftop from the bar to the dining area.
Set against the beautiful CBD skyline accompanied by a trio of good music, good food and better drinks, you’ll find it hard not to fall in love with the place.
Punctuated with prominent notes of tomato, chilli and sweet crab, the Chilli Crab Waffle Fries (S$15++) impressed us with its well-balanced flavour, doing well to stay as true to the original dish as possible.
The sauce, a flavourful concoction of their house signature chilli sauce and blue crab dip, was sweet and piquant and features a generous amount of crab meat. If anything, it felt more like a paste than a sauce.
The fries—cut in a crisscrossed “waffle” shape—allows for maximum sauce coverage, making it an excellent (and appropriate) cut to mop up the sauce with. A signature food item here, this is one dish we highly recommend trying.
The Loof Bubble Tea (S$22++) cocktail is an alcoholic spin on a classic bubble tea and, make no mistake that while it may appear harmless, it packs more punch than you’d expect.
Comprising vodka, gin, rum and orange liqueur, the initial sip swarms the tongue with an intensely potent, alcoholic bite, closely followed by a citrusy, savoury-sweetness courtesy of sour plum, citrus yoghurt, fruit and tapioca pearls. The creaminess from the yoghurt mellows the flavours out, giving the cocktail a more rounded out taste.
We knew we were treading on potentially troubling waters when we ordered their B.C.M. Grilled Cheese (S$18++). Stuffed between two toasted slices of sourdough was a liberal stuffing of marinated pork mince, chilli and mushrooms. The cheese makes its appearance in the form of a thin and crispy outer layer.
A nod to the iconic local noodle dish, bak chor mee, this grilled cheese may not win the hearts of everyone but we were pretty impressed nonetheless.
