For the majority of Singapore’s populace, the Central Business District (CBD) is where they hustle to make a living. Yet, on the other side of the district’s facade, there’s plenty of charming destinations and watering holes to unwind at. One of them is Miss Fitz.
Located at The Sail on Marina Boulevard, Miss Fitz—a play on the word “Misfits”—is where you can come to for a taste of the Mediterranean paired alongside brilliantly thought out cocktail menu comprising spritzes, classic cocktails and more. Have a penchant for adventure? Visit their hidden bar concept, Roxy, for more drinks. Be fuelled by excellent handcrafted cocktails complemented by the sounds of the rocking 80s.
They’ve just rolled out a newly-revamped Mediterranean menu curated by Chef Duncan McCance to feature delicious plates inspired by the many places within its geography. Read on to find out our thoughts on the new direction.
Located on the ground floor of The Sail
Bringing with him a wealth of experience having worked across cafes and restaurants in Melbourne, London, Bali and beyond; Chef Duncan designed the menu to incorporate plenty of organic produce and to showcase them in an eclectic way that’s both delicious and nutritious.
Miss Fitz Launches New Mediterranean-inspired Menu
To begin, we had a Spiced Cauliflower & Chickpea Salad. Beautifully spiced and charred just enough to bring out the aromas of the spices without scorching it too much, the cauliflower florets were robust and sweet. Paired alongside spinach, celery, bits of avocado, pomegranate and topped with a sesame dressing, it was sublime. An awesome dish to prime the palate for the heavier courses to come.
A dish that seriously stands out as one of our favourites of the evening was the Charred Octopus topped with Sambal Matah. Inspired by his travels and experience working in Bali, Chef Duncan applies the fresh, zesty flavours of a sambal matah with a grilled octopus. Every bite is an aromatic blend of lemongrass, shallots, garlic and kaffir lime. Fresh chilli gives it a bit of heat and lends warmth to the overall dish. Paired with the tender, charred octopus, it’s difficult not to devour the entire plate on sight.
You wouldn’t normally expect beef to be gamey but for the case of their 15-hour-braised Glazed Short Rib, it was. Not that it tasted off or anything. Quite the contrary, we actually really enjoyed it.
Served with a sweet glaze, the flavours felt reminiscent of a Peking duck—all that was missing was some julienned cucumber and steamed pancakes. It was gloriously tender with a deep, meaty flavour.
Another crowd-favourite (and it’s not difficult to see why), their Grilled crispy Lamb Belly comes highly-recommended. Served on a bed of mixed grains, almonds greek yoghurt, every mouthful assaults the palate on multiple fronts. You have creamy, spicy, gamey, crispy, meaty and tartness all happening at once.
Hidden within Miss Fitz is Roxy
Once you’re done with dinner, waste no time in asking where Roxy (the restaurant’s hidden speakeasy) is. The space is small but for what it lacks in seating capacity, it more than makes up for in the quality of their handcrafted cocktails, concocted by their resident bartender, Tash.
The bar exudes vibes similar to those grimy, backroom poker dens and rock-and-roll dive bars of 1970’s lower east-side Manhattan. Minus the stench of smoke. If you’re in the mood for a proper wind down over casual banter and stiff drinks, you’ll be well taken care of over at Roxy.
