NIQQI’S The Cheese Prata Shop: 24-Hour Local Restaurant Near NUS

A beloved local breakfast and suppertime staple that’s crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside and can be enjoyed sweet or savoury, nothing hits the spot better than freshly-made roti prata.

Niqqi’s The Cheese Prata Shop along Clementi Road does not deviate much from common Indian-Muslim eateries in that they operate 24/7 daily and serves a vast repertoire of dishes. What sets them apart though, is their specialisation in a very particular type of prata—cheese prata.

Niqqi’s Special Cheese Prata

A popular item here, one can’t go wrong with Niqqi’s Special Cheese (S$5) that sees mashed potato, egg and cheese perfectly melded together and housed within a fluffy prata.

Pleasing to the palate, the mashed potato in the prata was nice and soft, the cheese was salty and creamy and the egg gave the dish richness along with a heightened savouriness. All in all, this prata rendition was decent although we probably would have enjoyed it more if the potato came flavoured rather than plain.

Plain Prata

For good measure, we went with the standard Plain Prata (S$0.90). This humble flatbread was crispy on the outside and decently fluffy on the inside. We much preferred eating ours with sugar as it better brought out the bread-like flavour of the prata.

With our prata, we had the option of either fish curry or chicken curry. We opted for both because why not, right? Much to our disappointment, their curries were mediocre with neither one possessing any special quality apart from being mildly spicy and tasting like regular curry.

Mee Goreng

We’re calling it, Niqqi’s The Cheese Prata Shop serves one of the best maggi goreng in Singapore. No kidding, their Maggi Goreng (S$3) was terrific.

Every strand of noodle had a nice texture to it without being soggy or oily and the flavour profile was just on point—savoury, sweet and spicy all going on within a single bite. Without a doubt, this is a dish we can see ourselves ordering again and again—perhaps with a fried egg added on too!

Kopi (Coffee) Tarik

There was nothing particularly memorable about their Kopi Tarik (S$0.90) apart from the fact that it was frothy and very sweet. As far as coffee shop coffee goes, it was decent but a little too thin for our liking.
