3. Broma: Not a Bar – It’s difficult to find this bar, but worth the hassle
Despite the irony of its name, Broma is very much a bar—and a hugely popular one in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1 too. Getting to it is an adventure in itself but it’s worth it. It requires navigating through a row of old buildings and walking up a dark, narrow set of stairs.
This funky, bohemian-style rooftop bar is home to an eclectic mix of DJs who deal in hip-hop, r&b, funk, and house. Pair the vibes with one of their many craft beers—there were about 30 or so varieties that last we checked—and you’re pretty much set for a solid night.

6. M Bar (Hotel Majestic Saigon) – Beautiful views of Saigon River
Located on the 8th floor of Hotel Majestic Saigon, with splendid views over the Saigon River, M.Bar is notably recognised as one of Thomas Fowler’s regular haunts in the iconic novel, ‘The Quiet American’. The bar recently underwent a revamp in 2018 and now sports a vintage, colonial-themed look, staying true Saigon’s early twentieth century splendour.
M.Bar’s signature cocktails that can not be missed are “Majestic 1925” and “Happy Saigon”.

7. Rooftop Garden (Rex Hotel) – A bar with historical significance
Located on the fifth floor of The Rex Hotel, this cosy colonial rooftop bar is great for lounging over drinks and live music. The rooftop bar is at its best when the sun sets, revealing a roster of house musicians who often lay down latin beats and salsa.
Unbeknownst to many, this unassuming rooftop refuge holds historical significance during the Vietnam war. It was the place where official foreign press briefings took place, where daily war conferences by the American military command, often mocked as the “5 O-clock Follies’.

8. Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar – One of Ho Chi Minh’s oldest bars
A stalwart of the capital’s rooftop bar scene, Saigon Saigon is recognised as one of Ho Chi Minh City’s oldest and most iconic rooftop bars. During the war, this bar use to host thirsty politicians, journalists and soldiers. Now, of course, the bar’s clientele come in the form of tourists and locals, eager for a properly-made libation and scenic views of the capital’s city scape.
Here, they serve a variety of international comfort dishes from cheeseburgers to salads, as well as solid cocktail program that’s worthy of praise. Among their many standout cocktails, go for the Miss Saigon. A drink that features fruity, tropical notes built around a strong foundation of rum and vodka.
