Inspired by the life and tales of Joseph Conrad, one of history’s greatest novelists, newly-opened Set of Six is not just another speakeasy. It’s a portal to adventure. Satiate your inner wanderlust by embarking on an elegant trip back to a time when Sea Voyages were common and Speakeasy Soirees ruled the twilight hours.
Driven by expertly-crafted cocktails inspired by the late novelist’s tales of courage and splendour, fused with modern mixology and a masterfully curated Japanese-Peruvian food menu designed by Executive Chef Gonzalo Landin of next-door Spanish restaurant, Binomio, Set of Six sets out to bring a new dimension to Singapore’s effervescent nightlife scene.
Set of Six is brought to you by the same people behind Binomio
The cocktail lounge brings to life Conrad’s experiences when he went to the sea at 17; and later when he sailed to Singapore as part of the crew of Captain James Craig. Fun fact: Craig Road name takes after Captain James Craig! Greeted by scents influenced by Far East voyages of the renowned writer, the quirky decorations complement the adventure stories of the Vidar, the sailboat of Captain Craig and are the elements for the curated libations and unique house cocktails served over at the parlour.
A nod to one of Conrad’s most compelling novels, Set Of Six, the cocktail lounge sets a design journey that provides six discoveries for diners to experience.
To keep the options concise but the experience captivating—just like the six stories in the novel—expect an exquisite selection of Japanese-Peruvian small plates and a medley of handcrafted drinks that will no doubt leave you impressed.
To kick things off, we began with the sweet and elegant tipple, Sailor’s Fate. A tropical milk-washed cocktail concocted using dark rum, spiced gunpowder tea, pineapple-infused Rosso vermouth, amaro and citrus. How fitting that the recommended pairing for this fruity cocktail was a fresh French oysters topped with zingy sherry foam and spicy tomato relish.
A gorgeous pairing that saw a well-rounded pineapple-forward sweetness going head to head with the robust flavour and briny qualities of the oysters.
Tinged with plenty of bright citrusy flavours, the Sea Bass Ceviche was a pleasing start to the meal. It was a perfectly composed mix of clean and refreshing tastes and had components such as popcorn and sweet potato to really elevate it further.
Delicious nosh and handcrafted cocktails await
For the ones who crave a little danger and prefer sourish cocktails, gun straight for the Blessed Earth. A zesty tequila and mezcal-based margarita-inspired cocktail that features fresh citrus, agave, grapefruit and a touch of soda.
Sublime from our first bite till our last, the Cured Spanish Mackerel is an umami-dense flavour bomb. Accompanying the mackerel is scarlet prawn tartare, salmon roe, sea lettuce and chorizo crumble. Our recommendation is for you to take a bit of everything in one bite!
The Country Terrine is modelled after a classic country-style terrine made using a mixture of pork and chicken. It has a nice smoky element underscored by a meaty, almost mineral-like taste from the ground meat and pig liver. Texturally, it’s nice and firm but melts nicely in the mouth.
The dish comes with crispy grilled bread and capers to help balance out the meatiness. Excellent for sharing!
A rich, luscious and decadent must-order is their Lobster & Fennel Ravioli with Bottarga, Uni and Caviar. What else needs to be said? It really doesn’t get any more luxurious when you have the trifecta of lobster, uni and caviar.
