Get Creative & Doodle At An Interactive Bus Stop
Conceptualised by 3M and Ca Kway Teow, a group of student architectural designers and artists from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Sk(r)etch is an interactive bus stop installation where members of the public are invited to doodle.
This piece is inspired by the childhood ‘mischiefs’ of doodling and the role that public spaces play in connecting communities through shared memories. As such, Sk(r)etch seeks to encourage the public to re-experience the bus stop, a common everyday space for most Singaporeans, as a platform to engage with one another through art.
Where: Queen Street (outside Kum Yan Methodist Church)
When: 23 to 31 August 2019, 7.30PM – 12AM
Night Lights
A signature highlight of the Singapore Night Festival is the many interactive light installations scattered all across the city between Bras Basah and Bugis. If you’re in the area, don’t miss your chance to see Singapore’s heritage, arts and culture in an entirely different light.
This year, look forward to a total of 16 night light installations scattered in and around the area, designed by both local, regional and international talents.
Be amazed as the facades of some of Singapore’s most iconic museums—Singapore Art Museum and National Museum of Singapore—come to life into evanescent shows with the help of light projections.
Advocating Climate Change Through Art
Many of this year’s installations are centred around the topic of climate change. One of the more therapeutic pieces to look forward to is Whispers by Light Society.
Synthesising elements from ancient and contemporary practices—wind therapy, as the artist calls it—Whispers depicts a storm that’s paced from mellow to heavy. Executed to dramatic effect on a large scale, the piece invokes a series of emotions from calm to fear using lights, plastic sheets, fans and sounds.
Merely Ice Cream – Limited Edition Flavour
As part of a special collaboration, don’t miss out on Merely Ice Cream’s new flavour, ‘Choco Pokey’, a dark chocolate-honeycomb mix that’s specially crafted for the Singapore Night Festival.
Mr Punch’s Cocktail Workshop (29 – 31 August)
The 12th year of the Singapore Night Festival marks Mr Punch Public House’s first involvement in the annual occasion. As you wander through the many installations and light shows scattered around the Bugis-Bras Besah precinct, you can look forward to a variety of performances by Mr Punch as well. Think, old-school puppet shows and theatre performances.
Between performances, visitors are welcome to participate in a cocktail-making activity, where they will have a chance to learn about and craft their very own Signature Punch cocktail or mocktail—the perfect tipple to send them merrily off on the rest of their Night Fest jaunt.
Those especially thirsty or peckish will be treated to a 15% off, if they make a reservation at Mr Punch Public House for a pre-show dinner from 29-31 August, between 5PM and 7.30PM.
