One of Japan’s major festivals, Summer Sonic is a three-day rock festival that’s held simultaneously in two different locations. This year, festival-goers can choose to catch the stacked lineup in either Tokyo or Osaka. Whichever you choose though, expect to be blown away by a massive cast of world-renowned powerhouse acts. A feast for music lovers and festival junkies, Summer Sonic is renowned for curating some of the world’s best acts; inviting a range of rock bands, pop artists and EDM DJs from across Japan and beyond.
This year, the three-day festival happening simultaneously in both Tokyo and Osaka will feature the likes of Skrillex, Steve Aoki, Kygo, Black Eyed Peas, Post Malone, Wu-Tang Clan, The 1975, Liam Gallagher (formerly from Oasis) and many more! A summer party of epic proportions, this is one event you won’t want to miss—if only we could travel.
Founded back in 2000, the Summer Sonic Music Festival is held simultaneously in Tokyo and Osaka over a span of two (sometimes three) days during summer in late August. This colossal music festival attracts a massive array of top international artists ranging from bands, solo artists and DJs. 2017’s lineup saw the likes of Calvin Harris, Foo Fighters and Black Eyed Peas.
For this year’s edition—provided it can even happen to begin with—, event organisers say that they will reduce the total capacity to 60% its intended size as a means to reduce the risk of viral spreading. Hand sanitisers will be provided as well and festival attendees are expected to put on a mask at all times. With international travel still being banned, Japanese audiences will be subjected to a “Keep Distance and No Loud Talking” protocol that will ensure a much safer music festival experience for everybody.
