Yuzu-jin

Upon arriving at the restaurant, customers are greeted with a functional bar known as the Dragon Chamber Kopitiam. Designed to look like a nondescript Kopitiam, it serves a variety of cocktails such as Yuzu-jin – a sweet, citrusy mix of gin, yuzu puree, Blue Curacao and soda; or the Sake Mojito made using logan infused sake, elderflower liqueur, lime, peat whisky mist and a dehydrated logan skewer.

After finishing our introductory drinks, we were led through a secret neon-lit passageway by our hostess into the main dining area, with walls lined with brightly-coloured murals illuminated by naked light bulbs.

Double Boiled, Almond Mushroom, Sea Whelk & Conpoy Soup

For starters, we were served the Double Boiled, Almond Mushroom, Sea Whelk & Conpoy Soup. An elevated traditional Chinese herbal soup with sea whelk that tastes like abalone and perfectly cooked, non-gamy chicken feet, which was a good contrast to the chewy conpoy and mushrooms.

A second round of drinks was served between courses, including a Dr Tang Margarita comprising Tequila Blanco, tangerine and sour syrup; and Compassion created using gin, lychee liquor, strawberry puree, lemon and prosecco, boasting a fizzy and distinctly tangy, strawberry flavour.

Wagyu Beef Truffle Hor Fun

The first of the main course was their signature Wagyu Beef Truffle Hor Fun presented in a massive bowl. It was filled with wok-fried flat noodles, tender slices of US Wagyu short rib, a poached egg and truffle gravy.

What surprised us were the crunchy biscuit-like bits scattered in the mix, which we later found out to be deep-fried hor fun strips. Each mouthful was a beautiful mix of textures, melt-in-the-mouth beef and aromatic truffle.

The Tofu Duo in Pumpkin Gravy consisted of two types of tofu, egg spinach and charcoal-infused; presented neatly in a circle alongside roasted pumpkins inside a vibrant orange pumpkin sauce.

The charred pumpkins’ scorched texture had a sweetness akin to caramelised sugar, further enhancing the flavours of this savoury-sweet dish.

Wasabi Prawn with Tobiko

The Wasabi Prawn with Tobiko is unsurprisingly one of the crowd favourites. The dish features huge, succulent prawns evenly coated in creamy wasabi sauce and topped with tobiko. The fresh prawns retained its natural sweetness and boasted a distinct wasabi flavour.

A definite winner in our books!
