The Bamboo Bar was awarded the title ‘Best Bar in Thailand’ by Asia’s 50 Best Bars in 2018 & 2019. The honourable award was certainly not a surprise to veterans in the nightlife industry. Located inside Mandarin Oriental Bangkok Hotel, the jazz bar has been regarded an institution in Bangkok since its inauguration in the 1950s.

A recent elaborate renovation has restored The Bamboo Bar to its glorious yesteryears. The stylish venue is now decked out in dark timber, marbled tables, and rattan seats. The iconic bar has successfully retained its colonial charm, without coming across as dated.
Members of Thailand’s high society and high-flying jetsetters are regulars of The Bamboo Bar. Having said that, a smart dress code applies to all guests. Men are to wear smart shirt, long trousers and closed shoes; ladies are to wear elegant outfits and proper footwear. Adhere to the dress code or risk being denied entrance to the bar.
Live Jazz Music at The Bamboo Bar
Live jazz music starts playing at 9:00pm every night. Order a cocktail, grab a seat and enjoy the melodious tunes. Seating is based on a first come, first served basis – so do drop by earlier to secure the best seats. Prices here are considered steep for Bangkok’s standards. Do be prepared to pay at least 520 baht for a handcrafted cocktail.
The drinks menu changes from time to time, so no two trips to The Bamboo Bar will be the same. Mandarin Oriental’s award-winning mixology team is such a creative and talented bunch. The previous Cappella cocktail menu was inspired by famous musicians, and drinks were aptly named after Johnny Cash and Louis Armstrong.
The current Compass cocktail menu is celebration of Thailand’s five different regions. It features new exotic creations such as the Culture Trip and Hang Lay. The former cocktail has incorporated Chiang Mai cold brew mixed with mulberry, roselle and Burma tonic; whereas Northern Thai curry lends its inspiration to the latter.
