Keen on a nighttime activity with your mates or even your significant other that doesn’t involve alcohol for a change? Visit Gardens by the Bay and witness an astounding collection of immersive and awe-inspiring digital light and art exhibits.
A collaboration between Gardens by the Bay and GIC, with art collective teamLab, in support of the Singapore Bicentennial, the exhibits on display will take on a series of themes. They encapsulate Singapore’s hope for a better, brighter future as we approach the bicentennial year.
Featuring seven digital art installations spanning across indoor and outdoor spaces of Bayfront Plaza, these exhibits encompass three themes – Aspirations, Connectivity, and Possibilities.
Outdoor Exhibits: Connectivity & Aspirations
With the simplicity of touch alone, visitors can trigger aural and colours in the hundreds of spheres floating on ‘Dragonfly Lake’, and spur the blooming and scattering of flowers over the lattice structure at Bayfront Plaza.
The first spot you have to visit is the Autonomous Resonating Life on the Water and Resonating Trees exhibit located at Garden by the Bay’s Dragonfly Lake. This installation features 334 egg-shaped ovoids randomly scattered on the water and along the boardwalk. After dark, these 334 ovoids illuminate to brighten and liven the garden in a sea technicolour beauty.
Another highlight at the outdoor garden is the giant lattice mass entitled Flowers and People, that sees thousands of seasonal flowers that scatter and change over the course of an hour. It signifies the continuous cycle of life and death.
Indoor Exhibits: Possibilities
Held inside of the Bayfront Pavilion, Animals of Flowers, Symbiotic Lives features roaming digital animals constructed out of flower petals. The roaming animals are native to the region such as the Malayan tapir, Sambar deer, leopard cat and smooth-coated otter. When people touch the animals, the flower petals scatter. If too many people touch the animals at the same time, the flowers will scatter, and all the animals will die and fade away. A thoughtful reiteration of the unspoken impact that we as humans have had on our ecosystem.
Be sure not to miss Flowers Bloom in an Infinite Universe inside a Teacup. Over here, visitors can make tea and flowers bloom inside a teacup by moving it up or picking up.
And be starstruck by spatial calligraphy artwork, Reversible Rotation – Black in White, a contemporary interpretation of traditional calligraphy in an abstract space involving multiple pieces rotating.
For indoor exhibits, entry is free for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents and S$10 for non-Singaporean residents.
