#LockdownArtist Charity Auction: Bid For Artworks by Bartenders

#LockdownArtist Charity Auction

In support of The Food Bank Singapore, the city’s best bartenders, mixologists and chefs have teamed up with Perrier® to present #LockdownArtists Charity Auction. It is a virtual charity auction featuring original artworks by them created during the two-month circuit breaker period. These artworks will be sold at a silent auction on 20 June 2020 stretching all the way until 28 June 2020.

Artworks comprise acrylic paintings along with handcrafted pottery pieces as well, hand-painted (and made) by folks from prestigious and well-known f&b establishments such as Smoke & Mirrors, No Sleep Club, Bitters & Love, Cheek Bistro and many more! The auction aims to raise a minimum sum of S$10,000 for The Food Bank Singapore.

The one-hour auction beginning at 4 PM on 20 June 2020 will be hosted by Kiss92 FM radio personality, Maddy Barber. She will be interviewing the artists as they share more about the inspiration behind their respective art pieces. Silent bidding commences on the same day and will close on 2359-Hrs on Saturday, 28 June 2020.

The list of nine contributing artists includes Janice Wong, Chef-Owner of 2am:dessertbar; Jorge Conde, Head Bartender of Smoke & Mirrors; Juan Yijun and Jessica “Hutch” Hutchinson, Co-Owners of No Sleep Club; Naz Arjuna, Head Bartender of Bitters & Love; Petrina Loh, Chef-Owner of Morsels; Phoebe Oviedo, Sous Chef of Open Farm Community; Oliver Truesdale-Jutras, Head Chef of Open Farm Community; and Rishi Naleendra of Chef-Owner of Cloudstreet, Cheek Bistro and Kotuwa.

A mixed media art piece featuring images taken by Yijun’s younger brother Juan Qi An, at No Sleep Club right before the circuit breaker, this piece embodies the spirit of the venue, which is its people and the energy they exude. The repeated faces showcased in the art piece remind people of life before COVID-19 when wearing a mask wasn’t considered a norm, and the visuals invite the viewer, especially those in the F&B industry, to question what is left of a venue when people are removed from the space. What is left when the virus threat still looms? And more importantly, what will be left when the pandemic is over? Will people get so used to the isolation that they no longer wish to mingle in a crowded space? 


When Will I Be King Again? – By Head Bartender Naz Arjuna (Bitters & Love)


This art piece depicts the artist’s once lively, lavish and excessive lifestyle that has since been humbled and put into perspective by the global pandemic. He was once the king of the city, but now he is broken, torn, and stripped off all his royal indulgences. The future is uncertain and the question that remains in his mind is, “When Will I be King Again?”.

There isn’t much of a significance or backstory to this panting, just part of Jorge’s freestyle daily-sketches series—still looks pretty darn impressive in our opinion. 

The first 25 bidders will receive a complimentary Perrier® mocktail delivered to their homes. The drink is specially created by Jigger & Pony – recently named The Best Bar in Asia on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2020.
