Located along Syed Alwi Road, Mustafa Centre is a 24/7 mega-mart that caters to folks from all walks of life.
The hypermarket curates an insanely wide array of goods from different parts of the world. Think pistachios from Turkey, sweets from India and camel milk from god-knows-where. It’s no wonder why the place remains a hot favourite among tourists and locals alike.
It’s comparable to Japan’s Don Quijote but a lot less organised. Prices for goods and groceries at Mustafa Centre are also known to be very reasonable and their secret? Their curation of a wide variety of goods in crazy big quantities. Jewellery, electronics, perishable groceries, cosmetics, health supplements—whatever it is you desire, you’re bound to find it at Mustafa Centre.
To accommodate a large number of goods, they pack everything close together making the isles incredibly cramp. During peak hours, the crowd at Mustafa Centre can be quite unforgiving.
During our recent visit, we encountered throngs of people pushing, shoving and standing idle around. Honestly speaking, it was a huge nuisance to deal with, but we suppose that’s all part of the experience.
Basement 1 & 2: Clothing, Sports Attire, Bags, Luggages
Basement 1 & 2 spans further than the human eye can see and we’re not exaggerating. As you descend down from the first level via the steps (or the escalator), you will first be greeted by the fashion section, followed by sports attire, sports equipment and electronics all the way to household appliances such as refrigerators, kettles, ovens and the like.
They carry some big brands here so don’t be surprised to find brands such as Adidas, Reebok, etc.
Level 1: Gold, Jewellry, Watches, Electronics, Medical Equipment
The first floor covers a wide range of luxury items such as jewellery, gold and branded watches as well. Here is where you’ll find health supplements, medicine and medical equipment as well.
If you appreciate vinyl, you’ll be glad to know they carry a pretty wide range of vinyl records.
Level 2: Food, Groceries, Spices, Exotic Snacks
Without a doubt, the second level is our favourite level of the entire establishment! The second floor houses a massive variety of groceries that far surpasses that of local supermarkets.
Here, they carry everything and anything from fresh produce to artisanal teas that can’t be found elsewhere. Fancy a glass of fresh camel’s milk, anyone?
Level 3: Household Items, Decorative Ornaments
Looking to redecorate or to beautify your home? The third floor is where you’ll find household goods and decorative ornaments.
Level 4: DIY Items, Books, Stationery, Furniture
Unless you’re visiting for a specific reason, you wouldn’t otherwise venture all the way up to the last floor. Here is where they house stationery, books and some DIY items.
