Organised by Sarawak Tourism Board, the annual Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) is a unique 3-day music extravaganza. Held in Kuching, Malaysia, RWMF celebrates the diversity of world music and brings together renowned world musicians from all continents. Look forward to folk, ethnic musical acts and more performances against the lush, tranquil rainforest.
For more than 20 years, Rainforest World Music Festival has played host to nearly all genres of world music. Be it the raw roots played in remote areas, classical traditional ensembles, folk, world beat and world fusion. A culmination of folk acts from all around the world is expected, making this one-of-a-kind musical experience for both lovers of music and culture vultures in search of something new.
In addition to music, festival-goers will also be treated to a variety of daily activities and workshops. Learn about various ethnic instruments of the world, vocal and instrumental techniques, interactive dance workshops and the list goes on.
A celebration of people and social inclusiveness, Rainforest World Music Festival aims to unite ethnicities from all over the world in one open, inclusive space, allowing folks from all walks of life to mingle and hopefully broaden their understanding of one another and their respective cultures.
Sarawak Cultural Village – A Festival Surrounded By Lush, Tranquil Rainforests
Held at the Sarawak Cultural Village, an award-winning museum spread out over a 17-acre site at the foothills of Mount Santubong, the festival venue showcases the tribal lifestyles lived by numerous ethnic groups. Close to about 150 people live in the village, and throughout the duration of the festival, they will demonstrate various traditional activities for festival-goers to experience the arts, crafts, games and delicacies of the 7 major ethnic groups that reside there.
Regardless of where you come from, beliefs or creed, everyone will be able to try their hand and participate in fun, engaging activities in the form of interactive dance workshops, percussion jam sessions, children’s craft and musical story sessions, cultural talks and demonstrations, workshops explaining the different ethnic instruments and much more.
Artist Lineup – Uniting World Music Powerhouses From All Continents
This 3-day festival holds evening performances on two open-air stages and afternoon more intimate shows on an indoor Theatre Stage. The full artist lineup will be announced closer to the event date, so watch this space.
