For the biggest J-pop and J-rock festival this summer, look no further than to the Rock in Japan Festival happening from 3 to 12 August 2019. The event spans across five days over two weeks—3 and 4 August 2019 and 10, 11 & 12 August 2019—and will take place in Japan’s Ibaraki prefecture, just northeast of the nation’s capital of Tokyo.

While other festivals of this magnitude typically cater to foreign artists and fans, Rock in Japan features an all-Japanese line-up, featuring some of the biggest Japanese acts such as ACIDMAN, Ivy to Fraudulent Game, Amelie and Saucy Dog.

This is the best option for fans of J-rock and J-pop and with this year being the event’s 20th anniversary, you can bet that it’s going to be bigger and better than previous years.

Despite the fact that many (if not all) of the acts are pretty unheard of, you’ll be surprised to know that Rock In Japan Festival is one of the few annual music festivals in Japan that draws the largest attendance to date. That said, it can’t be all that bad, right?

Boasting an all-Japanese line-up spanning some of Japan’s more modern contemporary sounds from underground indie bands, cutesy pop groups and hardcore rock bands, there’s surely something for everyone—even if you don’t speak the language.

Spread out across the entire festival space will be several stages and DJ booths so if you’re not liking what you hear at a particular stage, hop over to another!
