Among a plethora of genres modern music has to offer, it’s apparent that electronic dance music (EDM) dominates the airwaves. What’s not to love? It’s everything you could ever want in a rave-friendly song. It has a catchy melody, a strong percussive build-up that instils tension and anticipation followed by a massive climax in the form of a heavy bass drop.

You hear it dominating the airwaves in clubs, at events and people even go as far as to fly halfway around the world to partake in music festivals i.e. Tomorrowland (Europe) and World Club Dome (South Korea) just to experience it. But little does anyone know that here in Singapore, we have a pretty dope EDM scene as well.

To get a taste of what Singapore’s EDM scene has to offer, here are 7 major names including prolific artists and DJs that will have you tearing up the dance floor like a present on Christmas morning.

While Mohamed Yahya may not have rocketed his DJ-ing career beyond YouTube, he deserves a spot in our list for being one of the most talented yet hugely underrated spin junkies. A bedroom DJ—he produces all of his works from the comfort of his bedroom—Yahya goes by the moniker Fallen Superhero.

His craft and his music are unique. He takes inspiration from sounds around him—literally. From the hypnotising chant of the Tampines tissue auntie to the beeping sounds of train doors closing; he turns ordinary, everyday sounds into EDM masterpieces.

The Lion City’s very own DJ prodigy, MYRNE has played in major electronic music leagues. He’s the first Singaporean signed by Ultra Records; joining the ranks of many world-renowned DJs such as Alan Walker and Steve Aoki. Back in 2018, he collaborated with local singer-songwriter Gentle Bones to release the 10-track B4NGER PROJECT via Universal Music. The same year, he performed at Tomorrowland and Ultra Miami, making him the first Singapore musician to ever perform on these international stages.

A classically-trained musician with a Grade 8 certificate in piano, MYRNE first started tinkering around with a basic setup consisting of audio software and keyboards on his Windows laptop while in Junior College. His remixes of pop hits proved popular on his Soundcloud account; he amassed a following of close to 10,000 followers within just a short time during his formative years as a budding DJ. MYRNE is among a slew of many artists that will be performing at the inaugural edition of Singapore’s first multi-genre music festival, Hydeout Festival.

Overflowing with youthful energy, DJ JOZY—real name Joann Khoo—is not one to mess with. Her understanding of music and her ability with a turntable is anything but amateurish. At only 23 years old, she’s already seen it all; the grind of doing weekly shows and coming up with new material on a regular basis.

Despite her young age, JOZY continually pushes boundaries and experiments with various musical genres—mostly heavy bass music and dubstep.
