Originally from Barcelona, Tapas,24 Singapore is no stranger to the local Spanish food scene here and has been serving up heartwarming traditional tapas made with authentic Spanish ingredients; as well as top-notch wines, sangrias and cocktails since May 2021.
With the travel restrictions loosening up, founder of Tapas 24, Barcelona, Chef Carles Abellán, has finally made his long-awaited trip from Barcelona to the Singapore outlet!
In light of Chef Carles’ visit, Tapas,24 Singapore has curated an exclusive menu: ‘Carles Abellán Specials’ (Available from 17 – 27 Feb); a variety of a la carte dishes; and a 3-day only Lunch ($88++/pax) and Dinner Set Menu ($138++/pax) (Available 25 Feb 6pm, 26 Feb 12pm & 6pm, and 27 Feb 12pm). These exclusive menus showcase the very essence of Tapas,24 – fun, friendly and full of life, and represents Chef Carles’ culinary journey and inimitable personality.
If you’re opting for the lunch & dinner set menu available over the weekend, do consider adding on the wine pairing sets that are available at an additional $48++ per pax (4 glasses of wine). Expect an exciting lineup of wines and creative pairings, curated by in-house Sommelier, Guillaume Pace.
Aperitif – Roca, Brut Reserva
To start, we had the At Roca, Brut Reserva ($17++/glass), which was served as an aperitif. Crisp, light, and notes of apples. Clean finish.
King Crab Ensaladilla Rusa
One of the must-try dishes by Chef Carles is the King Crab Ensaladilla Rusa ($26++). Featuring a mixture of king crab meat with egg whites, miso mayonnaise and tobiko, it is an elevated version of the existing ‘Ensaladilla Rusa with Olives’ on the menu.
Creamy, albeit not overwhelmingly rich, the seafood flavours from the crab were prominent on the palate, and the miso mayonnaise added a savouriness that enhanced the dish’s flavours overall. Available until 27 Feb only.
McFoie Burger
The McFoie Burger ($16++) is a recent addition to Tapas,24 Singapore’s refreshed menu; the burger has a patty made from foie gras, iberico pork belly and Aussie beef chuck, sandwiched between two grilled brioche buns, and is served with a creamy and savoury foie gras mousse. Not gonna lie; we were sold the minute we heard the words ‘foie gras’ 😍 The patty seemed to have a higher ratio of pork and beef to foie gras, with the taste of the meats being more distinct.
Not to overwhelm the senses, the foie gras flavours came through strongly in the aftertaste instead, and despite being a relatively thin patty, it was packed with flavour and moisture. The mousse was sooooo good – rich, savoury and full of that foie gras goodness. It was served cold, and you can either spread it on the burger or dip the burger in it and enjoy!
Pairing: Javier Sanz V Malcorta 2019 – dry, floral, fruity with notes of lychee. Slight acidity that combats the rich foie gras.
Truffle Spanish Tortilla
After tasting Chef Carles’ Truffle Spanish Tortilla*, we don’t think we can eat a tortilla any other way now 😫 This dish is an omelette with a creamy filling consisting of truffles, potatoes and pancetta. Tthe truffle aromas and flavours were sooo strong (in the best way). Just look at the generous truffle shavings! Savoury, with slight umami, this is an unexpectedly delicious dish that really hits the spot.
*Available for ticketed Lunch & Dinner sessions only
Squid Ink Paella
The Squid Ink Paella ($38++) stole our hearts and tummies for sure. Not only was it beautifully seasoned, the squid ink and seafood flavours were absorbed well by the saffron rice too 💯 The cuttlefish slivers were cooked just right – chewy but not tough. Great for sharing and a must-try! Available until 27 Feb only.
Pairing: Descendientes De J.Palacios, Pétalos Del Bierzo 2019 ($22++/glass). Interestingly, the paella was paired with red wine – an uncommon pairing for a seafood dish. However, this Pétalos Del Bierzo surprisingly went very well with the paella. It was medium-bodied, with subtle herbaceous and floral notes, juicy and had good minerality.
Churros
A classic Spanish dessert, the Churros ($14++) are available on Tapas,24 Singapore’s permanent menu as well. When ordering a la carte, you may choose between two sauces: Chocolate, Coffee Toffee or Mango & Passionfruit. Churros were crispy, light and not too doughy. We personally prefer the rich chocolate and sweet, caramel-like Coffee Toffee sauce!
Chocolate Cake
We also had the Chocolate Cake ($14++), which was rich, decadent and filled with melted chocolate; this chocolate cake is literally what Willy Wonka’s dreams are made of. Served with vanilla ice cream with crème fraîche. Available only until 27 Feb.
Sangria
Of course, we had to try their Sangría ($18++), right? The Sangría had notes of red fruits and distinctive aromas and flavours of rosemary, overall a light, refreshing drink to end a meal with.
If you’re a fan of Spanish food, you can’t miss out on Chef Carles’ exclusive menu available for just this week at Tapas,24 Singapore!
