Xiao Jun Gan Chuan Chuan Xiang opens till 7am daily & sells 50¢ skewers

Xiao Jun Gan Chuan Chuan Xiang (小郡肝串串香) is one of Singapore’s cheapest mala hot pot restaurants!

With high-end contenders such as Hai Di Lao and Beauty in a Pot, we know that it’s hard to satisfy your hot pot cravings without burning a hole in your pocket. So imagine our surprise when we heard about Xiao Jun Gan Chuan Chuan Xiang – an affordably hot pot eatery that serves skewers from S$0.50 each.

The best part: It opens till 7:00am every day!

Originating from Chengdu, there are actually a whopping 1600 franchise restaurants across China! Despite having two outlets in Singapore, Xiao Jun Gan Chuan Chuan Xiang remains largely under the radar here. Known best for their Sichuan Mala soup and insanely cheap skewers, you should definitely make this your next supper hangout.

What to expect at Xiao Jun Gan Chuan Chuan Xiang

The concept at Xiao Jun Gan is similar to Lok Lok in Johor Bahru. Besides the soup base (which the friendly staff will help you out with), the rest of your dining experience is DIY.

Xiao Jun Gan SingaporeFrom mala chicken, cheese tofu to marinated beef, you get to pick out your favourites from more than 80 skewer choices. Concoct and assemble your own dipping sauce and dip the cooked skewers in your creation.

Don’t be fooled by the skewers’ size!

The skewers may look a little underwhelming due to its bite-sized portion – but do not let that throw you off. Two of us had a total of 39 sticks (note that some dishes come in 2 or 3 sticks), and that was enough to fill us up.

Xiao-Jun-Gan-Chuan-Chuan-XiangThere is no time limit at Xiao Jun Gan Chuan Chuan Xiang, so you can eat for as long as you want! However, if you want a heavier meal and carbs is a must, you can choose from another section of higher-priced ingredients that range from S$3 to S$9. Still pretty damn affordable in our opinion.

The hidden costs you’re worried about

小郡肝串串香Here’s what you need to know: The condiments are free-flow at S$2/pax and the ‘special’ oil that is well received by the Chinese locals goes for S$2/can. The soup is regularly topped up, so you should opt for a double pot (S$12) and enjoy two different flavoured bases.

We chose the best-selling Sichuan Special Mala Pot and Herbal Nourishing Pot. There are other soup base options available, namely Delicious Tomato Pot, Secret Recipe Clear Pot and Shan Zhen Mushroom Soup Pot.

Disclaimer: The Nourishing Beauty Pot is not a collagen-based soup, instead it is a herbal soup base without the aftertaste from herbs such as dang gui (female ginseng).
