Bali Nasi Lemak: Popular Supper Spot in Geylang Opens till 4AM

Disclaimer: We visited Bali Nasi Lemak before Circuit Breaker.

Having been around since 1985, you might have heard of Bali Nasi Lemak from its stellar reputation surrounding their distinctly unique Kicap Manis Fried Chicken. Or perhaps the fact that the stall owner is a sister of widely-acclaimed Punggol Nasi Lemak’s owner. Many folks tend to compare the two stalls but they differ quite a fair bit in our opinion. The former holds its own pretty well, serving a plethora of delicious sides in addition to nasi lemak’s staple ingredients from sayur lodeh (vegetables braised in curry), hae bee siam (dried shrimp sambal) to sambal petai and the like.

We paid a visit during an off-peak time on a weekday and lo and behold! There was a queue that had already formed stretching from the storefront right onto the roadside. The layout of the stall is comparable to Punggol Nasi Lemak such that on display sit a plethora of cooked dishes ranging from sambal long beans, chicken wings, otah, fish cakes and the like arranged neatly on aluminium trays waiting to be mopped up by hungry patrons.

Bali Nasi Lemak Chicken Wing Set

You have two options: either you opt for one of their set items or request to mix and match.

Having heard so much about their distinctly unique Signature Kicap Manis Fried Chicken Wings, we simply had to go for their Bali Famous Chicken Wing Set.

It features fragrant coconut-infused rice, a glorious fried chicken wing covered in a sweet-sticky kicap manis sauce, a fried egg and a side of roasted peanuts and ikan bilis (fried anchovies).

Signature Kicap Manis Fried Chicken Wing

The reviews you read online don’t lie. The chicken wing was divine. A succulent wing with a crispy, flavourful exterior, engulfed in a sweet, glossy molasses-like soy sauce.

The fried chicken wing is amazing on its own. But partner it up with a spoonful of the aromatic rice, piquant sambal and a few bits of the salty, crunchy ikan bilis, you’ll literally feel yourself entering a state of nirvana.

Their prices are pretty standard. A serving of rice starts at S$1 and any subsequent ingredient added is priced at S$1. The chicken wings, however, are S$2 a wing and S$3 for the drumstick portion.
