When in Bangkok, there’s nothing quite as gratifying as cooling off with an ice cold beer, and we aren’t just talking about the iconic trio—Leo, Singha & Chang. The craft beer scene in the capital city is booming and it’s only going to get bigger.

We heard the weather’s projected to dip during the year end period but that’s not going to stop us from touring through Bangkok’s thriving craft beer scene for an ice-cold, frothy beer. Here are 10 of our recommended bars for you to hole up in, places that offer a wide selection of small-batch brews as well as entertainment and warm vibes to boot.

A standalone watering hole that occupies a huge space in 72 Courtyard, this haven of a beer bar is famous among craft beer enthusiasts and those representative of the bar’s name.

Beer Belly houses just about 36 taps with about 20 international craft beer varieties. Besides beer, the bar offers an extensive variety of games that come in the form of beer pong, pool and foosball—the perfect recipe to stir up some friendly fun among friends.

Perched on the 30th Floor of the Radisson Blu Plaza hotel, Brewski is a rooftop craft beer joint—Bangkok’s only one—that offers guests swell views of the bustling Bangkok city as well as a wide repertoire of craft brews. To boot, the bar boasts over a dozen beers and ciders on tap with over a hundred bottled varieties as well. Here, the drinks are reasonably priced and the vibes are incredibly chill—perfect for a boy’s night out.

Decked out entirely in yellow, this peculiar craft beer bar might strike you as a hipster Korean-type cafe, but with the amount of libations they have at their disposal, it’s anything but.

Owned by a Korean expat, the food menu leans toward a Korean-Mexican fusion and the beers on tap are mostly (if not all) local. Just a little bigger than a hole-in-a-wall, this container bar harbours a warm, chat-friendly vibe that will keeps regulars coming back for more.

5. Dok Kaew House Bar Residential home converted into a bar

There’s much that this humble little craft beer bar has to offer in terms of unbridled revelry and the lore that surrounds the building that the bar is housed in. Located in the trendy Ari neighbourhood, the bar assumes residence in a shanty close-to-a-century-old house that many locals believe to be haunted—or perhaps that’s just the beer talking.

Owned by two passionate beer drinkers, who you can trust to know a thing or ten about beer, the list of craft beers they curate are stand-out. Try their house-made Nher Weizen, if not, have someone pour you a Wheat Bomb.

Taking up residence in a three-storey brick building, this beer haunt boasts a remarkable 16 local craft brews on tap as well as a myriad of imported brews. Every level of this three-floor establishment is segregated. The first is where you’d expect to find live band performances and an open dance floor, the second, the main restaurant for proper grub and the third, a sports bar.

7. Goldencoins Taproom BangkokOpens till midnight daily

Replacing the now-defunct Butterscotch ice cream shop at Ekkamai Shopping Mall, Golden Coins Taproom features six taps dedicated to the brand’s different beer styles. Founded by Pieak Pipattanaphon, a living icon in Bangkok’s craft beer scene, the bar encapsulates his vision in furthering the future in locally-brewed craft beer.

Golden Coins is known for their IPA and Pale Ale beers, and beer lovers would do themselves a favour by trying the Wish Do, an American-style Pale Ale brew. The Happy Stout is another crowd-favourite. Containing five percent stout, this style is nuanced, sweet and tastes a little bit like cookies and cream.

8. Mikkeller BangkokLook forward to 30 rotating taps

Escape the sweltering heat at this stronghold of a craft beer bar. Tucked away in a charming residential area in the Ekkamai district, Mikkeller Bangkok boasts a cosy space with over 30 taps, a cozy Michelin-starred fine dining & craft beer pairing concept, entitled “Upstairs At Mikkeller”, helmed by Chef Dan Bark (formerly Sous Chef of a Three Star-Michelin, Grace Restaurant in Chicago) as well as a retail store that allows you to browse and buy a wide selection of locally and internationally brewed craft beer.

9. Píjiǔ BarRetro 1950s bar in Chinatown

Modelled to look like an old-school lounge bar in 1950s Hong Kong, Pijiu, which translates to “beer” in Chinese, features five taps on regular rotation, offering anything from IPAs to lagers. By the bottle, their range is pretty extensive, even curating locally brewed craft beers.

Located just a few steps away from Bangkok’s famous Teens Of Thailand, with an entrance that resembles an old-school Chinese medicine hall, this little watering hole is hard to miss.

The Beer Cap focuses on niche craft beers hailing from Belgium, Spain, USA, France and motherland, Thailand. It is conveniently located in Thonglor, one of Bangkok’s hottest nightlife districts and a familiar territory among craft beer enthusiasts.

A great place to hang out at, the vibe is pretty chill but given its size it tends to get a tad rowdy as the night progresses.
