Gardens by the Bay: Supertree Grove Opens till 2am Daily & Entry is Free

Source: Holger Link

Singapore’s knack for futuristic, utopian architecture never fails to leave the world in awe, and Gardens By The Bay is no stranger to worldwide praise in that department.

This modern botanical garden even went as far as to inspire the artwork for the fictional world of Xandar in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.

A place comprising a smorgasbord of attractions, the one that we particularly find most intriguing is the Supertree Grove. Measuring between 25 and 50 metres tall, these cyborg-looking ‘Supertrees’ are designed with large canopies that provide shade in the day and come alive with an exhilarating display of lights and sounds at night.

Don’t forget to bring your cameras when you visit because the photo-taking opportunities here are endless. The attraction is open until 2:00 AM daily and entry is free. However, note that you will have to pay a fee to walk the skybridge.

Environmentally-friendly Supertrees

The Supertrees are designed to resemble trees and its aesthetically pleasing structure is just as functional, or even better than what a regular tree can do.

Each Supertree consist of four major components – the reinforcement concrete core (which is an inner vertical structure upholding the tree); the trunk; the planting panels where over 158,000 plants comprising over 700 species of floral has been planted on the 18 Supertrees; and the canopy, a hydraulic jack system which is the canopy, shaped like an inverted umbrella.

It is good to note that some of these Supertrees are equipped with solar panels to store energy for the nightly show, whilst others are used as air exhaust receptacles – helping to cool the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories. Talk about environmentally friendly!

Note: Entrance fees apply for entrance to Cloud Forest and Flower Dome.

128-metre long Skybridge

To take your experience up a notch, make a trip up to the OCBC Skyway, where the 128-metre long aerial walkway connects two towering Supertrees.

Tickets can be bought for S$8/pax at the ticketing booth, however, be sure to get them before 8 PM (as the last entry onto the bridge closes then).

The 360º view from the 22-metre high suspended walkway is amazing. You will be able to capture Instagram-worthy shots which include the scenic beauty of the surrounding flora, or you could even get creative and make use of the bright yellow railings to create a vanishing point.

Gardens by the Bay Singapore Light Show

As night falls, you will be treated to a 13-minute spectacular light-and-sound extravaganza titled Garden Rhapsody. Happening at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM respectively, this is definitely a show not to be missed!

Be awed as you watch how the light and music sync up to create an enchanting performance. There are 68 independent audio speakers stimulating “live” musicians performing at various spots, this is surround sound at its best!

Prior to the show, you will see many visitors securing a perfect spot and many will even lie down on the ground, we recommend that you could grab some takeout and snag a spot early!
