If you’re a fan of meat, it’s hard to say no to a plate of satay fresh off the barbecue. Flame-licked to charred perfection and coated in a sweet-savoury marinade, served alongside a luscious (sometimes chunky) peanut sauce, it’s near-impossible to resist. The best snack to pair with a beer, here is our list of 5 satay stalls that open until late.
1. Satay (Chomp Chomp Food Centre) – Late-night satay till 12:30AM
A one-stop locale for Singapore hawker food at its finest, Chomp Chomp Food Centre in Serangoon Gardens is home to a modest array of stalls, stalls specialising in barbecued seafood, barbecued chicken wings, a handful of local delicacies such as wanton mee and fried carrot cake and of course, satay. There are currently two or more satay stalls that reside within its humble confines but the one that we prefer is stall 34. Their satay is tender, flavourful and more importantly, it does not get stuck onto the stick—something that often happens when pre-frozen satay hasn’t been properly thawed.
Address: #01-34, Chomp Chomp Food Centre, 20 Kensington Park Rd, Singapore 557269
Opening Hours: 4PM – 12.30AM (Daily)
Nearest MRT Station: Serangoon
2. Haron Satay @ East Coast Lagoon Food Village – Since 1980s
A veteran in Singapore’s local food scene, Haron Satay at East Coast Lagoon Food Village is regarded as one of Singapore’s best by locals. Established back in 1980, they’ve won many accolades to their name and during a time, even supplied their homemade satay to Singapore Airline—talk about being high flyers. Their recipe hasn’t changed all that much from the old days though. What’s most important is the use of fresh, quality ingredients, it’s time-honoured marination method and the right cooking technique.
Address: #01-55, East Coast Lagoon Food Village, 1220 East Coast Parkway, Singapore 440000
Opening Hours: 2PM – 11PM (Tue to Sun), Closed on Mondays
Nearest MRT Station: Bedok
3. Lau Pa Sat Satay – Late-night satay spot filmed in Cray Rich Asians
Located right outside iconic Lau Pa Sat, along Boon Tat Street, is a closed-off road where you’ll find a seemingly never-ending line of satay stands and plenty of tables and chairs. Among the many satay vendors there, the ones we religiously return to is satay stall 7 and 8. While satay is pretty much the same across the board, what we like about theirs is their sauce and their consistency. Expertly cooked over roaring hot coals, each meat skewer had a robust, smoky aroma to it along with a beautifully charred outer crust.
Address: Stall 7 & 8, 18 Raffles Quay, Singapore 048582
Opening Hours: 7PM – 1AM (Mon to Fri); 6PM – 1.30AM (Sat to Sun)
Nearest MRT Station: Raffles Place
4. Rasa Istimewa Waterfront Restaurant – Eatery in Woodlands
Serving up lip-smacking barbecue seafood, Muslim-Chinese zi char favourites and homemade satay, look no further than to Rasa Istimewa Waterfront Restaurant in Woodlands. A favourite dinner venue among families, many often visit on the weekends for its array of delectable dishes and killer coastal views. Their satay may not be the restaurant’s star dish but it sure wouldn’t hurt to order up a platter to share.
Address: 6A Admiralty Rd W, Singapore 757445
Opening Hours: 12PM – 12AM (Daily)
Contact: +65 6366 9339

5. Violet Oon Satay Bar & Grill – Upscale satay in Clarke Quay
In juxtaposition to the rest of the hawker centre-style satay on this list, this is considerably more upscale in terms of its presentation and quality but the fundamentals of this dish remain the same. There are five different kinds of satay to choose from—chicken, prawn, beef, pork and tripe. All well marinated and flame-licked to give it its signature caramelised, charred flavour.
