Mr Prata (Evans Road): 24/7 Singapore Eatery with Insane Prata Creations

Armed with a knack for experimentation and culinary innovation, Mr Prata is a 24-hour eatery that prides itself on their array of unconventional prata creations. These folks take everything we love the humble prata and turn them into something intrinsically better—take their maggi prata for instance.

Their range of roti prata offerings spans the humble plain prata to oddities such as Italian Prata—a prata stuffed with mutton, mushroom, capsicum and cheese—Seafood Prata and more. But are they an eatery that’s just fat full of gimmicks or are their crazy creations actually good? We made a trip down to find out.

Egg Onion Roti John

If you’ve come with a big appetite, we urge you to consider one of their many Roti John options. We got the Egg Onion Roti John (S$4) which sees copious amounts of diced onions cooked with egg, before being slathered onto an open-faced French loaf and alongside tomato ketchup and mayo.

The omelette was cooked to just the right fluffy consistency and the onions were translucent and sweet. The bread was crusty on the outside and pillowy in the middle, forming the perfect bed for the savoury egg topping. The sauces provide sweetness, providing good contrast and making every mouthful as addictive as the last.

Maggi Prata

One of Mr Prata’s more popular creations, the Maggi Prata (S$5.50) is exactly what its name suggests—it’s a prata stuffed with maggi noodles. It took us a while to wrap our palates around the taste of the dish because, besides the novelty of it being interesting, there was nothing really memorable about it.

The prata was mediocre at best, save for the fish curry served along with it which saved it from being bland. As we said, it’s maggi noodles in a prata.

Masala Thosai

If you’re hankering after some proper South Indian comfort food, then their Masala Thosai (S$3.50) should have you well sorted. Paper-thin and stuffed with a generous amount of spiced potatoes, their rendition of the popular Indian breakfast really hits the spot.

The outer layer is crispy, light and slightly sourish while the stuffing was savoury with a heady aroma of spices.

Bandung Dinosaur

Mr Prata Bandung Dinosaur

To balance out the savoury dishes, we got ourselves a Bandung Dinosaur (S$3.50), a sweet beverage concoction that sees rose syrup mixed with milk and topped with a heaping mound of milo powder. They also have other variants from the classic Milo Dinosaur (S$4) to Horlicks Dinosaur (S$4.50) as well.

Foreign to what these peculiar ‘dinosaur’ beverages are? It basically refers to regular milk-based drinks that are elevated with scoops of milo powder over top.
