#SupportLocalSG: 5 Virtual Events for Stay-in Nights (June 2020)

June 2020 virtual events

With Phase 2 literally days away, many of us would have already locked down our plans for the weekend. Like all of you, we’re extremely stoked to finally be able to go out, meet friends and enjoy a feast at a restaurant! But that being said, it’s also paramount that we remain vigilant during this period. The measures may have eased up but that doesn’t mean the virus is gone for good.

As much as we hate ourselves for saying this, staying home as much as possible would still be the best solution. Better be safe than sorry, right? To tide you through your stay-home nights, we’ve rounded up a list of local virtual events happening throughout June. Talk about supporting local whilst being kept entertained from the comfort of your own home!

1. Esplanade Off Stage

With fears of local transmissions still at an all-time high, theatres and concert halls around Singapore including Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay will still remain closed to prevent any possible spread of the virus. That said, all shows, activities and performances have ceased—until now.

Taking the digital route, Esplanade presents Esplanade Offstage, a free online multi-access pass that will allow music, dance and theatre lovers to stay connected to the arts via exclusive broadcasts of performances, videos, stories, podcasts and more. This allows art lovers to continue support artists via virtual events from the safety of home. Explore multiple categories spanning music, dance, virtual art, literary art, theatre and more!

The yearly Ramadan Bazaar in Geylang Serai is something that many look forward to. So we can totally imagine how much of a bummer it was when the news broke that it would not happen this year. But that said, the night market isn’t NOT happening either. From the comfort (and safety) of your home, relax and browse through Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar Online, presented by Wisma Geylang and kedaisujimy.com.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and Circuit Breaker measures, the festive market has gone digital, offering everything from sweet treats and tasty street snacks to stylish Raya outfits and innovative kitchenware at your fingertips. Think of it as online shopping but for food, festive apparel and more!

Besides the usual, there will be masterclasses, live performances, comedy skits, virtual workouts, and other online Ramadan programmes organised!

It will be operating via a platform that allows you to order creative delicacies from your favourite local and regional f&b brands. You can also browse through many homegrown retail brands, catch performances and even engage in fun games. Just like in real life, navigate through a crowded (and noisy) virtual market where you’ll be able to browse through different sections and different stalls selling a variety of wearable and edible goodies.

Singapore’s first interactive live performance on the widely-adopted video-telephony platform Zoom, Murder At Mandai Camp is presented by local theatre company Sight Lines Entertainment. Drawing inspiration from army myths and urban legends of National Servicemen, Murder at Mandai Camp is the brainchild of award-winning filmmaker Chong Tze Chien and Derrick Chew (Artistic Director, Sight Lines Entertainment).

Running for three nights only across 26 to 28 June 2020 at 10:00 PM, the digital theatrical production will cast audiences as the lead investigator, tasked to uncover the truth behind the gruesome death of an army recruit. Enhancing the digital theatrical experience at home, order yourself a cocktail with partnering bar, laut, a new cocktail concept that’ll take audiences on a gastronomic journey with its Southeast Asian-inspired cocktails—namely their signatures, Grass & Soy.

Get your tickets here.

When: 26 to 28 June 2020, 10 PM
