HiddenTiki: How To Enter The Most Hidden Bar In Penang

Speakeasies are taking Penang by storm and newly opened HiddenTiki has taken the concept of secrecy to a whole new epic level. To start with, the three-month-old drinking establishment is most likely Penang’s most hidden bar. Even with its address, you will definitely struggle to find your way in (unless you have watched the short video below).

HiddenTiki’s obscure location and tricky way of entry have remained a well-kept secret amongst nightlife tastemakers, but we are here to disclose everything you need to know.

A step-by-step guide on how to enter HiddenTiki Penang

We suggest you take a Grab – an Uber equivalent in Southeast Asia – to the following address:

20, Jalan Anson George Town, Malaysia

Thereafter, you will end up in an outdoor car park. Alight the car and walk towards the “BBQ Lok Lok” hawker store located at a corner.

Walk past the lok lok store until you see the signboard:

Kedai Bamboo Tea Point

Note: You cannot push or slide the bamboo door.

Before you give up… All you have to do is open the cupboard on the left and press the button inside:

Watch in awe as the bamboo door slides open and a dramatic walkway of Moai Tiki statues is unveiled. The Polynesian-themed bar is incredibly spacious; lounge by the booth seats inside an artificial ‘cave’ or cosy up at the bar counter and watch the bartenders in action.

Our Honest Thoughts on HiddenTiki Penang

When we visited HiddenTiki in end June this year, the staff seemed relatively inexperienced – and the bartenders even looked confused! While the exotic bar has a brilliant concept, cocktail connoisseurs should proceed with caution when it comes to drinks. At that point in time, HiddenTiki’s rum-based concoction did look better than it tasted.

Hiddentiki Penang DrinksHaving said that, perhaps HiddenTiki just wasn’t on form that night… And it would be unkind of us to dismiss it based on one encounter.

So we say: Give it a shot! After all, the experience of finding this secret tiki bar itself is already exciting enough.

HiddenTiki is open from 8:00pm to 3:00am every day, with live band performances taking place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

P.s. Good news to smokers and bad news to non-smokers: Indoor smoking is allowed.
