2020 is clearly not the year for music festivals around the world. Especially not with airports all over the world closing up making travelling (let alone attending music events) virtually impossible… Or so we thought. Anyone who’s a fan of concerts and epic gigs would surely have heard of Glastonbury. It’s one of the world’s largest and most elaborate music festivals—second only to Tomorrowland.
The team behind Glastonbury’s Shangri-La has announced a new virtual reality festival going by the moniker, Lost Horizon. A two-day virtual live-stream featuring multiple stages that can be accessed by anyone, many have dubbed this event as the ‘world’s largest independent music festival in virtual reality’.
Glastonbury’s Shangri-La Presents: Lost Horizons
Two days, four stages, fifty-over music performances from a star-studded global lineup, including the likes of Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Jamie Jones and more. It’s accessible from wherever you are in the world, so what’re you waiting for? Mark your calendars (3 & 4 July) – this is probably the only time Glastonbury will take place in a virtual world.
Looking past the hype, we’re actually pretty stoked for what Lost Horizon has in store. Described by the festival’s organisers as “the world’s largest virtual reality (VR) music and art festival” this free-to-attend virtual Livestream aims to be as realistic and as wild as the real thing sans the mud and humidity.
Lost Horizon will offer a deep multi-layered experience unlike any other. Replete with wild dance-floors, secret headliners, a visual feast of art and performance, hidden venues and some huge artists playing exclusively just for you. Recorded using green screen technology, artists can perform inside the virtual world as themselves or as a bespoke avatar. Fully customisable avatars will allow festival-goers to be whoever and whatever they want for the weekend!
Inside this multiverse, you can meet up with friends and make new ones; chat, dance and explore together, blag your way backstage or find a shady corner to hang out in.
Lost Horizon’s Lineup: 4 Stages, 50-Plus Artists
The immensely exciting lineup features the likes of Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, Peggy Gou, Seth Troxler and many more. Lost Horizon is an extraordinary event in that it employs the use of cutting-edge technology to make the festival seem as close to the real thing as possible.
Utilising a photorealistic platform known as Sansar, the team behind Shangri-La was able to create the virtual festival and replicate a realistic experience similar to that of the actual Glastonbury festival.
Where To Watch Lost Horizon
Festival-goers can use a virtual reality headset to experience the Lost Horizon festival – deeply immersive, completely interactive. Lost Horizon supports PC-powered headsets, including the Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and a tethered Oculus Quest. To join, festival-goers can simply download and open Sansar; follow the signs for Lost Horizon in the Nexus, Sansar’s central world.
Additionally, festival attendees “attending” via their personal computers must have an entry ticket just like in real life. You can register to get your ‘free ticket” via this link.
Users will be able to register for a complimentary “entry pass” via Sansar. Then, they can stream the event via their mobile and desktop app. Alternatively, the festival can be streamed via Lost Horizon’s official Twitch and Beatport pages. As well as on their partners’ and the various artists’ Facebook, Youtube and Twitch Accounts.
Despite the event being free for all, you can, however, purchase a premium pass for a small fee that includes exclusive art from Lost Horizon creatives, a Virtual Shirt from Instruct Studio, and more. There will also be opportunities to donate throughout the festival’s weekend runtime with proceeds going to frontline workers and those in the industry affected by the pandemic.
