Potato Head Singapore (Keong Saik): Burger Joint, Bar & Rooftop Garden

With an endless slew of bars and restaurants lining the streets of Keong Saik Road—with more sprouting up every few months—you’ll almost never run out of dining and drinking options. But perhaps one of the most vibrant and coolest spots in the area is the tastefully bizarre, Potato Head Singapore.

Situated in one of the most iconic 3-storey shophouses in Chinatown, Potato Head Singapore is a four-in-one concept that houses multiple bars and restaurants within the same building.

With four concepts housed within a single building, you can choose to jump around from floor to floor, tailoring your very own experience whether it be dinner, drinks, a romantic evening or all three. Depending on the time of day you visit, all four venues take on a very different vibe and mood.

Four F&B concepts within Potato Head Singapore

On the first floor, you have their burger restaurant, Three Buns. On the second floor, you’ll find their cosy restaurant modelled to look like a living room. There, you’ll have access to a wider array of mains.

The third floor is a private studio that also houses a bar. It’s a lot less rowdy and more laid-back, making it suitable if all you’re pining for is a tipple. Last but not least, the fourth floor is their rooftop garden. A romantic tropical space that overlooks the Keong Saik neighbourhood.

With such gorgeous decor, it’s hard to resist taking photos but do take note that the folks here prohibit the use of DSLRs for photo and video-taking. Only phone cameras are permitted.

What to order for sharing: Naughty Fries

Aptly named, the Naughty Fries (S$14) offers all who eat it an elevated gastronomic experience that transcends that of regular loaded fries. This dish is more than just a gutsy experiment that miraculously tasted good—it’s a stroke of pure culinary genius.

You have the spicy béarnaise, an interesting spin on the classic French sauce, the bawang goreng that’s essentially ribbons of onion that have been cooked down until sticky and sweet, the formaggio oro del maso, an intensely flavoured Italian cheese that has a strong, funky aroma to it and beneath it all, you get chunks of ground beef spiced with cumin.

Eaten together, the funk, the citrusy zing and the sweet savoury flavours create an explosion in your mouth that just becomes more and more addictive with each mouthful. Safe to say, we polished the entire dish up with relative ease.

No trip to Potato Head is complete until you try their Baby Huey

For the love of all things kept simple and honest, the Baby Huey Burger (S$17) is bound to impress.

A classic combination of ingredients, the components to this humble beast include a medium-rare Black Angus beef patty, licked with ketchup, spicy mayo and topped with cheese and pickles, sandwiched between two beautifully toasted brioche buns.
